Telefonica launches Ka-sat video service

Telefonica Business Solutions, a business unit of Spanish telecoms operator Telefonica, has announced the launch of a new wholesale service providing video transmission via Ka-band IP-over-satellite systems. The unit said the service was specifically designed for the TV industry and can be used to provide broadcast-quality live transmission from remote areas at a fraction of the cost of conventional digital satellite news gathering (DSNG) systems. The new service was used during Mexico's federal elections in June and the Copa America football tournament held recently in Chile. In both cases
