Telefonica outlines details of 4-year Spanish post office contract

Monday 16 April 2018 | 14:40 CET | News

Telefonica has confirmed the details of the contract it was recently awarded to provide telecommunications services to the Spanish post office (Correos) and its subsidiaries. The four-year contract, renewable for another two years, is worth around EUR 65 million and covers all of the post office’s telecommunications needs, including those of its support centres and the handheld PCs carried by postmen and women. It also covers parcel subsidiary Correos Express, business logistics company Nexea and Correos Telecom.

Under the terms of the contract, the operator will roll out a fibre-optic network covering more than 60 percent of Spain’s post offices, with the state-owned company’s 51,000-plus employees provided with the latest digital workplace tools. Other projects include exploring the use of M2M connectivity to streamline deliveries and track packages under the post office’s CityPaq initiative.
