Telefonica has announced plans to invest MNX 3.4 billion to expand and upgrade its fibre and LTE-based networks in Mexico this year. The resources will be allocated to replacing its fibre-optic backbone network with a next-generation DWDM network offering speeds of up to 100 Gbps. The company will also connect 1,500 base stations to its fibre-optic network with a view to improving the capacity of its 4G data services. In addition, Telefonica's LTE network will be extended to 23 new cities via the installation of 1,700 new 4G base stations.
