Telefonica to invest USD 430 mln in Peru this year

Tuesday 17 April 2018 | 11:44 CET | News

Telefonica Peru intends to invest some PEN 1.4 billion (around USD 430 million) in its fixed and mobile infrastructure this year alone, reports business daily El Comercio, citing Movistar Peru CEO Pedro Cortez. “The figure is a sign of the confidence we have in Peru and the investment climate,” said Cortez, adding that “we’re betting on connectivity, services integration and digitalisation.” Movistar intends install four LTE antennas a day to boost 4G penetration by 60 percent, while bringing 100Mbps fixed broadband to over half a million homes.

Other targets include increasing the number of subscribers to the Movistar Play VoD platform from 580,000 to 1 million by the end of 2018. The OTT platform reached 300,000 subscribers in October 2017 after being made available to mobile and internet customers in July.
