Telefonica to sell customer information to companies

Thursday 11 October 2012 | 13:04 CET | News
Telefonica will launch a service by the end of this year to market data regarding the behaviour of mobile phones to retailers and government agencies. Called 'Smart Steps', the project is expected to launch in November and December. Brazil, Germany and the UK will be the first countries to receive it. Telefonica has not indicated how much the initative will cost entrepreneurs or if the service will be offered to the Brazilian government. The idea is to identify everyday habits, starting with 'intelligent' tracking based on the use of mobile phones.
