Telefonica to switch to fibre alone in parts of Zaragoza

A total of 8,600 households in the northeastern Spanish city of Zaragoza will only be able to access the internet via a fibre-optic network starting in May 2016, reports Expansion. The news comes after Spain's telecoms regulator CNMC confirmed that Telefonica plans to closed down a total of 38 of its ADSL exchanges that are no longer in use due to the expansion of its FTTH network. The CNMC has approved the closure of Telefonica's exchanges in the affected parts of Zaragoza, meaning that ADSL subscribers who don't migrate to a fibre-based offer will lose their number.
