Telefonica top Spanish telco in European patent applications

Telefonica has announced that it remains Spain's leading telecommunications company in terms of the number of European patent filings. The company filed 31 patent applications at the European Patent Office (EPO) in 2015, nearly 50 percent more than the previous year and behind only public research body CSIC and travel tech company Amadeus in the overall ranking of Spanish companies. Telefonica added that the number of applications granted by the EPO also increased from 92 in 2014 to 131 in 2015, a 42 percent rise.
