Telefonica universal costs set at EUR 18.8 mln for 2014

Spanish regulator CNMC has fixed the cost of Telefonica providing the universal telecommunications service in 2014 at EUR 18.8 million. The total is down 3.9 percent from the previous year. The amount includes EUR 15.4 million for serving unprofitable areas of the country and EUR 7.8 million for providing special rates and services for disabled users. Servicing pay phones cost a total EUR 1.3 million. The CNMC also estimated the intangible benefits to Telefonica from providing the service, such as increased brand awareness, at EUR 5.9 million in 2014.
