Telekom to invest up to EUR 6 bln in VDSL roll-out - report

Deutsche Telekom plans to invest between EUR 5 billion and EUR 6 billion to expand VDSL availability to more than the current 50 large cities it covers, according to German financial magazine WirtschaftsWoche citing sources within the company. The operator wants to offer VDSL-based services including 100 Mbps broadband using Alcatel-Lucent equipment with vectoring technology to offer better competition to the cable network operators. The plan would involve roll-out in the coverage areas of the cable operators. In a reaction Telekom said that the new VDSL technology is an interesting model
