Telenor is holding talks to acquire a stake in the state-owned telecoms firm in Eritrea. At the same time, Statens Teleforvaltning is helping Eritrea to write a new telecoms law which will allow part privatisation of the telecoms authority. Also, NORAD is set to provide Eritrea with NKr56 mil for the purchase of three new telephone exchanges. Eritrea's state telephone firm has only 15k subscribers out of a population of 3.5 mil people. Eritrea is building up its telecoms network with help from Norway.
