Telenor Norway announces new feature for T-We as use rises 52% in 2017

Friday 12 January 2018 | 12:56 CET | News

Telenor Norway and its Canal Digital Kabel arm said use of their T-We service rose by 52 percent between 2016 and 2017 to 46 million viewings, both via the decoder and the T-We application. They announced a new feature to combine direct TV and streaming at the click of a button, and the addition of new content this year.

Telenor attributed the rise in the use of T-We to its provision of Paramount Plus, Disney and Fox Plus to all its television customers in 2017.

Birgit Bjornsen, head of TV and broadband at Telenor Norway, Bjorsen said the most significant part of the new T-We design is that pressing the blue key on the remote control will switch the screen from the linear channel that the viewer is watching, straight to the same channel’s archive of serials, films and other shows.

Customers will also be able to tailor their own TV guide, setting up their own categories. Bjorsen said that 58 percent of Norwegian households now both watch linear television and stream as well.

According to an opinion poll by Kantar TNS, the programmes that saw the greatest increases in viewing from 2016 to 2017 were Norwegian comedy and Norwegian entertainment. The top three places, though, were occupied by films, documentaries and US serials respectively. This trend was reflected at T-We, where domestic shows 'Next Summer', 'Practical Information from Jon Almaas', 'The Voice' and 'The Farm' were among those most frequently streamed.

Telenor went on to say that new additions to T-We for January and February include 'Saving Private Ryan', 'Baywatch', 'Transformers: The Last Knight', 'Legion', 'Atlanta', the Disney films 'Cars', 'Cinderella’, 'Peter Pan', 'Tinkerbell', and new series of Norwegian shows 'Quite Perfect', 'Next Summer', and finally, 'Stories from Norway' by comedy duo Ylvis, comprising brothers Vegard and Bard Ylvisaker.
