Telenor Norway reports record 5.5 bln SMS sent in 2016

Telenor Norway said a record 5.5 billion text messages were sent on its mobile network in 2016, up from 5.4 billion in 2015. Turning to New Year, it said that from midnight on 31 December 2016 until 06:00 hrs on 01 January, it recorded 16 million SMS and 1.1 million MMS sent. Snapchat traffic at midnight was 1,000 percent higher than usual. Telenor added that business and public services now account for about 40 percent of all texts on its network.
