Telia Finland encourages phone recycling as 80% of emissions caused during manufacturing

Telia Finland is encouraging customers to buy refurbished mobile phones through its 'Telia Recycled' scheme. Sustainability manager Ira Vainio said a smartphone weighing 200 grams emits about 79 kilograms of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to 571 kilometers driven by car. On average, 80 percent of these emissions are generated during manufacturing and only 15 percent during use.
