Telkom South Africa is committed to switching off its legacy 2G network in South Africa within the next twelve to eighteen months and is likely to become the first mobile operator in the country to do so, TechCentral reported. It wants to switch off the 2G network "as soon as possible" so that the spectrum can be redeployed for mobile broadband, said Beauty Apleni, chief technology and information officer for Telkom's consumer and small business.
