Telkom plans to reduce payphones within the next 6 months

South African operator, Telkom has announced that it plans to reduce public payphones as a means of cutting down on costs, Financial Mail reported. Telkom's consumer business head, Attila Vitai said that this is part of the company's repositioning as a provider of data-based communications. Vitai said that subject to Icasa and the government's approval, it would only have payphones in a few key locations within the next six months.
