TIM Brasil targets fibre partnership by end-2020

Friday 31 July 2020 | 14:10 CET | News

TIM Brasil aims to sign a partnership agreement by the end of the year with a company to develop its fibre-optic network, reports O Estado de Sao Paulo. The company’s management told investors and analysts that confidentiality agreements have already been signed with those interested in being part of the business. The expectation is to receive non-binding offers in early September and then select a small group with whom the final negotiations will be conducted.

The new company will be a subsidiary for the spin-off of the TIM Live broadband business, which covers already 27 cities and counts 600,000 connected customers. The network will be neutral, and TIM will remain the main customer.

TIM president Pietro Labriola said the company was not interested in bidding for InfraCo, Oi’s fibre company, but admitted that TIM may become a client of InfraCo in regions where it makes sense to expand the coverage of TIM Live.
