Telecom Italia (TIM) announced that work has begun on a project to build a fibre-to-the-home network in the city of Aprilia in the central Lazio region in a total investment of EUR 9 million. The company said the FTTH rollout will eventually enable residents in around 19,000 homes to access the internet at download speeds of up to 1 Gbps, up from the current maximum of 200 Mbps. TIM's existing FTTC network in Aprilia covers around 21,500 homes, equivalent to some 89 percent of the city's lines.
