Turkey authority granted power to oversee all online content

Friday 2 August 2019 | 12:28 CET | News
Turkey granted its radio and television authority RTUK the power to control all online content in a move that raised concerns over possible censorship of online publications creating opposition news as well as streaming platforms like Netflix, according to Reuters. Netflix as well as other platforms like local streaming websites PuhuTV and BluTV will be subject to supervision and potential fines or loss of their licences. Critics believe the move will allow the government to tighten its grip on media which is mostly under the influence of Erdogan and his AK Party.
