UCC orders another SIM card verification

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has directed all telecom companies to verify the identity of their subscribers with multiple SIM cards, reports The Monitor. UCC said the verification is aimed at ensuring that national identification numbers (NIN) on National Identity cards match the ownership of SIM cards. Godfrey Mutabazi, the UCC executive director, said during registration and verification, many people registered their SIMs using the NINs of relatives, friends and in some instances, agents.
