UCL researchers achieve data rate of 1.125 Tbps

Friday 12 February 2016 | 11:14 CET | News
Research at University College London's (UCL) Optical Networks Group have set a new record for the fastest ever data rate for digital information. The researchers achieved a rate of 1.125 Tbps as part of research on the capacity limits of optical transmission systems. This is almost 50,000 times greater than the average speed of a UK broadband connection of 24 Mbps, the current speed for defining 'superfast' broadband. The study has been published in 'Scientific Reports'.
