Ugandan central bank to take over mobile money regulation

The government is drafting a law to transfer regulation of mobile moneyto the Bank of Uganda (BoU), the Monitor reported. BoU deputy governor Louis Kasekende told a public consultative meeting that the National Payments Bill would give it sole responsibility for regulating mobile money and payment services. The bill will seek to streamline the system and reduce cash payments by 2022.
