Ugandan govt draft internet regulations attract criticism of attempted nationalisation

There has been public criticism of Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) draft regulations that could increase government control over internet access, the Monitor reported. The regulations hinge on the National Broadband Policy, which has been interpreted as an attempt to nationalise Uganda's telecommunications infrastructure. The policy, among other things, gives the government a long-term monopoly on the national backbone fibre, the report said.
