Ugandan social media tax falls well short of target in 2018

Uganda's government says it collected UGX 49.5 billion in social media tax in 2018 out of an expected UGX 284 billion, Ecofin reported. According to Doris Akol, the Commissioner General of the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), the people who can afford to pay for OTT apps are the ones avoiding the tax.
