UK average broadband speed is 14.7 Mbps in May - research

The average UK fixed-line residential broadband speed reached 14.7 Mbps in May, according to the latest Ofcom research. This is an increase of 22 percent or 2.7 Mbps in the six months to May, and an increase of 64 percent or 5.7 Mbps in the 12 months since May 2012. The increase in the national average speed is being driven by the take-up of superfast services (30 Mbps+). As of May, 19 percent of residential broadband connections were superfast, up from 14 percent in November 2012 and more than doubling from 8 percent in May 2012.
