UK govt announces new National Innovation Centre for Data

The UK Government has confirmed plans to invest GBP 15 million in a new National Innovation Centre for Data (NICD) to develop data science expertise. This will be matched by GBP 15 million funding from Newcastle University. The Newcastle-based centre forms part of the Government's Digital Strategy. It will aim to connect academic talent from universities with industry and the public sector to develop skills needed for the economy to benefit from big data.
