UK govt eyes economic boost from unlocking mapping, location data

The UK Government has announced plans to make key parts of the Ordnance Survey (OS) MasterMap openly available for use by the public and businesses. The move is expected to boost the UK economy by at least GBP 130 million a year as the data is used by businesses and start-ups to develop location-aware digital services.
