UK govt halts automatic broadband roll-out in rural areas

The UK Government seems to have abandoned a pledge to provide high-speed broadband to all UK homes, reports The Telegraph. According to a consultation document on the proposed 10 Mbps universal service obligation, high-speed broadband will now only be provided in rural areas on request, with Minister saying that not everyone in the 'final five percent' will want to be connected. The document states that, as not everyone will want to be connected, an additional broadband roll-out programme at this time is not proportionate and would not represent value for money.
