UK govt publishes draft Investigatory Powers Bill

Wednesday 4 November 2015 | 22:31 CET | News
The UK Government has introduced new legislation to provide law enforcement and the security and intelligence agencies with the investigatory powers they need in the digital age. The draft Investigatory Powers Bill sets out in detail the powers already available to law enforcement and security agencies, enshrines new capabilities in legislation, and strengthens the oversight and safeguards governing their use. Warrants for the most intrusive powers, such as the interception of communications, will be subject to a 'double-lock', requiring approval by a judge and the Secretary of State.
