UK govt to close BBC iPayer 'loophole' soon

In a keynote speech at the 2016 Oxford Media Convention, UK Culture Secretary John Whittingdale pledged to bring forward legislation to close the current loophole which allows those watching BBC programmes via iPlayer only to avoid paying the licence fee. He will bring forward, as soon as practicable, secondary legislation which will extend the current TV licensing regime not only to cover those watching the BBC live, but also those watching the BBC on catch-up through iPlayer. He said that the BBC works on the basic that all who watch it pay for it, adding that those watching only iPlayer
