UK govt to shift broadband costs to industry - report

UK broadband providers could be facing a levy of hundreds of millions of pounds to fund delivery of broadband connections to the whole country, reports the Financial Times. Senior government officials told the paper that ministers were considering shifting the GBP 500 million cost of providing the final 5 percent coverage to the industry as the Chancellor seeks spending cuts without breaking any manifesto pledges. The government is on track to deliver superfast broadband to 90 percent of the UK by end-2015 and promised in its manifesto to extend this to 95 percent by end-2017. It also
