UK local authorities call for broadband USO social tariff

Friday 21 October 2016 | 11:37 CET | News
The UK's Local Government Association (LGA) called for the government to include a social tariff within the proposed broadband USO (Universal Service Obligation). The request is part of its Autumn Statement submission, which was handed to the Treasury earlier this month. BT already provides a basic subsidised telephony and broadband package to its qualifying customers. The LGA believes that a similar offer should be included within the proposed broadband USO, enabling eligible households to receive a subsidised broadband connection of at least 10 Mbps at an affordable cost.
