UK may ask EC to rule on Fox takeover of Sky

Monday 6 March 2017 | 08:28 CET | News
The UK culture secretary has said she may ask the European Commission to allow Ofcom to rule on 21st Century Fox's proposed takeover of all of Sky. The statement follows Fox's formal notification of the EC competition authorities. The Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport, Karen Bradley said in a statement that informed parliament she was "minded to" ask the EC to allow the UK to decide on the merger as there "may be public interest considerations". Bradley said she had asked the companies for more information and will take a final decision within ten working days.
