UK Minister targets 'outdated' landline rental charges

Tuesday 22 March 2016 | 10:50 CET | News
UK telecoms providers could be banned from forcing consumers to pay landline rental when they take a broadband package, reports The Telegraph. Culture Minister ED Vaizey has written to BT, Virgin, Sky and TalkTalk asking them to attend a meeting before Parliament breaks for its summer recess. Currently, 1 in 5 households do not make fixed-line calls but still have to pay phone rental charges for a landline, on average around GBP 25 a month. Vaizey believes the charges are outdated and only wants consumers to pay for services they use.
