UK PSBs to get boost from cable carriage fees - report

Monday 21 September 2015 | 10:42 CET | News
UK broadcasters ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 could get a boost worth tens of millions of pounds as the government considers proposals to abandon copyright rules that allow cable operators, such as Virgin Media, to avoid paying to carry public service channels, reports The Telegraph citing unnamed industry and Westminster sources. The changes would allow the public service broadcasters to negotiate carriage fees from Virgin for their main channels. The move is expected to be confirmed later in 2016. Virgin already pays to carry their non-public service channels such as ITV2 and E4.
