Under 10% of US consumers spend USD 1,000-plus on smartphones

Less than one in ten consumers in the US are spending over USD 1,000 on flagship smartphones, according to a report from NPD. The data calls into question how quickly consumers will choose to upgrade to 5G technology bearing in mind that 5G phones are typically hitting the market around the USD 1,200 price point. "Manufacturers and carriers are expecting 5G to help reinvigorate the upgrade cycle, but pricing could present another hurdle," said the report.
