Unitel mulls launch of mobile banking service

Unitel CEO Miguel Geraldes said that the Angolan mobile operator is considering the possibility of entering the mobile banking business. Speaking to Lusa, he pointed out that the launch of mobile banking in Africa has helped local economies and benefited banks. Geraldes admitted that Unitel, which has seen its revenues fall by 50 percent in three years, faces great challenges, as does Angola, which has suffered a heavy "impact" due to its heavy dependence on oil and is in a phase of economic restructuring, with the potential of becoming the second or third largest economy in sub-Saharan
