Univ of St Andrews uses IoT to monitor harbour seals

The University of St Andrews Sea Mammal Research Unit (SMRU) is developing smart telemetry tags using Narrow Band-IoT (NB-IoT) technology to track and monitor the movement of harbour seals and research their population decline. NB-IoT Low Power, Wide Area (LPWA) technology was standardised by the GSMA's Mobile IoT Initiative, and is behind the emerging 'Internet of the Seas,' capturing underwater data that will help to monitor climate change.
