Uruguayan mobile lines flat at 5.33 mln, fixed lines inch up to 1.12 mln

Uruguayan telecommunications sector posted almost flat year on year figures in the first half of 2017, according to the latest update from communications regulator Ursec. The country had 5.33 million mobile telephony subscribers at the end of June 2017, down 0.4 percent year on year, although postpay accesses were up to nearly 39 percent of the market. Antel has the largest market share with 54 percent, followed by Movistar with 32 percent and Claro with the remaining 14 percent. The watchdog added that 3.68 million mobile lines, or 69 percent of the total, had access to broadband.
