US appeals court rules in favour of LG for MPT patent cases

Friday 18 July 2014 | 10:12 CET | News
LG Electronics said it has won two appellate decisions, in patent infringement cases brought by the Multimedia Patent Trust (MPT). The US Court of Appeals ruled in favour of LG, affirming a December 2012 jury verdict. The jury found that LG did not infringe the two patents asserted by MPT relating to video compression technology (US Patent No. 5,136,377 and No. 5,227,878). The Court of Appeals ruling also upheld LG's August 2013 district court win on preclusion grounds in another patent infringement lawsuit MPT filed against LG involving the same two patents.
