US approves FirstNet network state opt-out procedures

Friday 23 June 2017 | 09:00 CET | News
The Federal Communications Commission announced the approval of opt-out procedures for US states who decide not to take part in the new FirstNet network for America's first responders to be built by AT&T. After issuing the state plans earlier in the week, the FCC said state governors have 90 days to decide whether to opt in to FirstNet or opt out and build their own network, provided it's interoperable. Any state that chooses to opt out must submit a plan for its proposed state RAN to the FCC, demonstrating that its plan meets the interoperability requirements of the statute, said the FCC.
