US broadband penetration grows from 26% to 81% in 10 years

Some 81 percent of US homes get a broadband service at home, compared to 26 percent in 2005, according to a survey of 1,223 households by Leichtman Research in October. Broadband now accounts for 97 percent of all households with internet service at home, versus 91 percent in 2010 and 40 percent in 2005. Overall, 84 percent of households get an internet service at home, and 69 percent of adults access the Internet on a smartphone. While the percentage of households getting an Internet service at home is similar to 3 years ago, those accessing the Internet on a smartphone increased from 44
