US e-commerce spend up 18% to USD 109 bln in Q4

US retail e-commerce spending from desktop computers and mobile devices surged to USD 109.3 billion in the fourth quarter of 2016, up 18 percent year on year, according to a report by comScore. Although the majority of online buying occurred on desktop computers, with spending rising 13 percent year on year to USD 86.6 billion spent, the data revealed that m-commerce spending on smartphones and tablets soared 45 percent to USD 22.7 billion in the final three months of the year. Overall, mobile accounted for 21 percent of total digital commerce dollars in Q4 2016, up from 17 percent a year ago
