US govt, private sector put focus on STEM education, with major financial commitments

President Donald Trump has signed a Presidential Memo to make high-quality STEM education a priority, including computer science. The president wants the US Secretary of Education to put at least USD 200 million per year towards advancing this goal. The money will come from existing funds appropriated by Congress. The US President also stressed the importance of tracking the outcomes and progress of programmes funded under this directive. The day after Trump signed the memo, the Internet Association announced a private sector commitment of more than USD 300 million dedicated to K-12 computer
