US issues policy directive on cyber incident coordination

US President Barack Obama has approved a Presidential Policy Directive on United States Cyber Incident Coordination. The aim is to build on existing cyberprotection plans and better clarify the role of the federal government and private sector in responding to different types of incidents. This includes a new scheme for categorsing the severity of cyber incidents, with the government acting primarily in "significant incidents". This is an attack that is likely to result in demonstrable harm to the national security interests, foreign relations, or economy of the US or to the public
