US operators criticize Mexican regulator's lack of authority

Telecommunications companies in the US, represented by Comptel, have expressed their concern about the independence of Mexico's telecoms regulator Cofetel and hope it will achieve the autonomy to resolve the conflict of telecommunications in Mexico. Comptel claims that, despite years of complaints and petitions to stop the monopoly of Telmex, lack of authority and autonomy from the Communications and Transport Secretariat (SCT) and Cofetel has generated high fees and unfair practices against competitors.
