US pay-TV market loses 430,000 subscribers in Q3

The US pay-TV market lost 430,000 subscribers in the third quarter, slightly less than a year earlier, according to market researcher SNL Kagan. The cable sector improved its performance, losing only 94,000 customers, its best Q3 result since 2006. The biggest drop was among telecom operators, with a loss of 382,000 customers in the quarter. This was due mainly to AT&T's switch in focus from its U-verse IPTV service to the DirecTV satellite service. The latter helped direct satellite providers added a net 46,000 subscribers in the period.
