US smart speaker users to grow 14% to 83 mln this year

The number of smart speaker users in the United States is set to grow by 13.7 percent year on year to 83.1 million by the end of 2020, the vast majority of them Alexa devices, according to a new forecast by eMarketer. In fact, Amazon's range of Echo smart speakers and other Alexa-enabled devices will continue to account for around 70 percent of users, down slightly from last year's 73 percent, with 32 percent of speaker owners opting for Google-branded devices and around 18 percent using other brands, including the Apple HomePod, Harmon Kardon Invoke and Sonos One.
