US subscriptions to traditional cable, direct broadcast satellite (DBS) and telecommunications (telco) video services fell 7.1 percent year-on-year in 2019, in contrast to virtual services, which added over 1.8 million subscriptions, according to data from Kagan. The researcher attributed the figures to additional streaming video options and changes in the way service providers are offering content, as well as cord-cutting.
