US unlocked mobile phone base grows to 50.1 mln - study

The unlocked mobile phone market continued its upward trajectory with an estimated 50.1 million active unlocked smartphones running on US mobile networks at the end of May, an increase of 8 percent, according to data from NPD. However, despite this growth in units, tailwinds are slowing, likely due to expanding 5G networks and offerings as well as store closures occurring during the Covid-19 pandemic.
