Venezuela sets up line to report equipment theft

The Venezuelan government has set up a dedicated phone line (0-800-ANTENAS) to combat the growing phenomenon of mobile equipment theft in the country, reports local daily El Mundo. The spate of mobile base station thefts is causing great concern among operators such as Movistar (Telefonica), which said 306 of its stations were stolen between January and September, affecting 1.5 million users and costing the company BOB 2.2 billion. The cost of replacing each station comes to around BOB 8 million, said the report.
